Foodies can continue to experience the Queens restaurant scene next week. More than two dozen restaurants will be participating in Sunnyside Restaurant Week. NY1’s Matt McClure filed a report on the event, which will feature a unique, artistic twist.

Pack up your appetite and take it to Sunnyside. Twenty-nine restaurants in the neighborhood will be participating in Sunnyside Restaurant Week starting Monday.

“Peruvian, Mexican, Irish, American of course, Filipino, Japanese; we have so many different types of restaurants,” said Sara Nordmann, Interim Executive Director of Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District. “There's something for everyone, really.”

Many of the eateries will be serving up lunch starting at $12. All of them will offer a three-course dinner for $25.

“We think it supports local businesses,” said Chad Ryan, a manager at Venturo Winebar, one of the participating restaurants. “We want customers and guests of this neighborhood to come in and be able to afford to taste different elements of our menu.”

SoleLuna Italian Restaurant was also gearing up for a busy week on Wednesday. Owner Valerio Marchi said a signature dish will be on the Restaurant Week menu.

“The pasta is going to be fagottini, which is the most popular dish we have,” Marchi said. “People love it.  It's a fagottini filled with cheese and pear. So there's this sweetness from the pear and the cheese – great combination.”

But, organizers said it won’t just be about the food. What sets Sunnyside Restaurant Week apart from similar events in the borough is a focus on art. Non-profit arts group No Longer Empty will be giving diners a chance to experience some unique films with their meals.

“We want to give an insight into this neighborhood and into the creative community that it has,” said guest curator Sarah Corona. “So, this is why we are going to feature short films around Queens, from Queens-based filmmakers.”

“We've tried to consider films that feature food in some way,” added Rachel Gugelberger, No Longer Empty’s Associate Curator. “Sometimes it's quirky, sometimes it's a parody, and sometimes it's about a relationship breaking up while eating pie.”

As part of the unique arts aspect of Sunnyside Restaurant week, a blank wall outside SoleLuna will be transformed into a one-of-a-kind mural painted by artist Giorgio Casu.

“Great artist, I saw some art he made. Amazing job,” said Marchi

Casu will begin painting on Monday morning. The mural is expected to be a permanent installation.
