The Word Up Community Bookshop is celebrating a decade at its permanent location in Washington Heights this year. It’s a multi-lingual store and arts space. Its goal is to help community members live informed and expressive lives.

Veronica Santiago Liu, one of the co-founders of the bookshop, joined “News All Day” on Women Wednesday.

Liu says the bookshop is a community space where people can gather to share and listen to stories of the neighborhood.

The store’s leadership operates with a horizontal structure, meaning they decide about the shop collectively. The hope is this allows everyone involved to bring their experiences and skills to benefit Word Up.
