Fresh off a decisive re-election win, Congressman Ritchie Torres joined “News All Day” to talk about the future of the House — and the Democrat’s agenda — if Republicans take control of the House, which is looking quite likely.

Congressman Torres says the reason Democrats exceeded expectations, and the Republicans fell short of expectations, can be “summed up in two words: Donald Trump.”

Torres adds the lesson learned from the election is that the American people are “allergic to extremism.”

Looking toward the future, Torres believes that should the GOP take control of the House, we would see gridlock. He says “it could be a nightmare for the Biden administration, for the American people [including] an attempt to ban abortion nationwide.”

No matter which party is in the majority, Torres hopes to prioritize the restoration of the Child Tax Credit, which cut childhood poverty by 50%. He says Democrats will continue to deliver for the American people, just like they did with the Inflation Reduction Act.

In addition, should there be a change in Democratic leadership, Torres says that he will support Congressman Hakeem Jeffries if Nancy Pelosi steps down.
