This week, the city announced it is suing four companies to stop the sale of flavored e-cigarettes in an effort to address the rise of vaping among teenagers and middle school children.

The Adams administration says flavors and child-friendly packaging are aimed at young New Yorkers and contributes to nicotine addiction.

Since December, the city Sheriff’s Office has seized more than 300,000 packages of illegal flavored vapes, which is a value of more than $6 million.

Meanwhile, the Sheriff’s Office has also been ramping up efforts against unlicensed cannabis sellers.

Edgar Domenech, a former New York City Sheriff under former Mayor Mike Bloomberg and the architect of the city’s law enforcement strategies to tackle illegal tobacco activities, joined Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Friday to talk about the dangers of e-cigarettes.

“These vape, disposable products are coming from China. There is no regulatory oversight on these issues. FDA has failed to provide clarity and oversight on these issues,” Domenech said. “Kids are ingesting these items into their body, and we don’t know the ramifications.”
