On Friday’s Inside City Hall, Rep. Adriano Espaillat, who represents parts of the Bronx and Upper Manhattan, spoke with Errol Louis about the legislative session in Washington, why he believes the Democratic Party won’t lose power in the House this fall, and about other Democrats he is endorsing in primaries.

When asked about breakthroughs at the end of the legislative session in Washington, including a bill that was passed to boost U.S. chip production, Espaillat said people want to “see Congress work, and they’re really upset and tired of the gridlock.”

When asked about polls showing that people are ready to throw the Democrats out of power, Espaillat said that the numbers are “trending our way.” He added that gas prices are dropping and unemployment remains low.

“Those are good indicators that the economy’s back on track. And we still got until November,” he said. “It will be tight, but I think we will win. Keep the majority by a tight number, but we will get there.”

Even though Espaillat represents parts of the city, he said he plans on helping the endorsements of Democratic candidates across the country and within the state.
