NEW YORK — The ongoing crisis at Rikers Island has reignited a conversation about the future of the jail complex. Reports of unsafe conditions for both the detainees and staff, and reports of several deaths on the island, have led to calls for criminal justice reform and the immediate closure of Rikers.

Zachary Katznelson joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” on Tuesday night to discuss the effort to close the massive jail complex. Katznelson is the executive director of the Independent Commission on New York City Criminal Justice and Incarceration Reform, which aims to help the city move toward closing Rikers.
