1. CCRB to proceed with case against officer who fatally shot Delrawn Small

The NYPD will not block the city’s police watchdog agency from proceeding with a disciplinary case against an off-duty officer who fatally shot an unarmed man in Brooklyn in 2016, despite objections from the city’s largest police union, the agency said Friday. 

2. Gothamist: Bid to spare West Park Presbyterian Church from demolition wins Upper West Side committee’s support

Members of Manhattan Community Board 7’s Preservation Committee took a stand against the proposed demolition of West Park Presbyterian church last night, voting against the 132-year-old Upper West Side church’s application to be relieved of its landmark designation, our news partner Gothamist reports.

3. New York bills to provide abortion access to out-of-state women gain momentum

Bills meant to ensure women who live outside of New York can access abortion services in the state are gaining momentum within the state Legislature as Democratic lawmakers weigh how to respond to the potential of the U.S. Supreme Court overturning the Roe v. Wade decision on the national level. 

4. Advocacy groups, unions make push for anti-trust bill in New York

A coalition of labor unions and progressive advocacy organizations are making a renewed push this month to approve a measure meant to reduce corporate power in New York and tighten anti-trust laws.

Advocates hope the measure, backed by state Sen. Mike Gianaris and Assemblyman Jeff Dinowitz, builds enough momentum to pass the finish line before the end of the legislative session on June 2. 

5. Hochul: DEC, Park Police to add more women to their ranks

More women will be recruited to the ranks of environmental conservation officers, forest rangers and park police officers in the coming years, part of a broader effort by Gov. Kathy Hochul's administration to hire more women in law enforcement positions.

6. Clark Street subway station reopens with new elevators

The Clark Street subway station in Brooklyn Heights has reopened to the public, six months after it closed for upgrades, the MTA said Thursday. 

The 2 and 3 train station resumed operations on Wednesday with three new “state-of-the-art” elevators, the MTA said in a press release.
