Legendary character actor Abe Vigoda has died.

Vigoda died Tuesday at his daughter's home in Woodland Park, New Jersey.

He rose to fame playing New York City Detective Phil Fish in the 1970's TV series "Barney Miller" as well as mafia soldier Sal Tessio in "The Godfather."

He was born in Brooklyn and lived in the city later in his life.

Vigoda appeared in Shakespeare in the Park as well as several Broadway productions in the 1960's.

He is survived by his daughter, three grandchildren and one great grandson.

Abe Vigoda was 94 years old.
