NY1's weekly segment "Your Weekend Starts Now" shows entertaining picks for great things to do this weekend all around the city.
The Public Theater's UTR
My top pick this week: The Public Theater's Under The Radar Festival. This is a great chance to see some of the best new and experimental theatre from around the world. There are more than 180 shows now through next weekend. All tickets are only $25, and this year it's not just at the Public's home at Astor Place, but several cool spots including the Intrepid and Brooklyn Museum!
Stella Michaels and Zane Fix
My favorite art duo, Stella Michaels and Zane Fix, are wrapping up their exhibit "2 Sides of the Coin" at Highline Loft on West 26th Street. He does pop stars as Japanese, she's abstract: Together they're "stray kat gallery." And they always make art fun.
NYC Winter Jazzfest
The 13th annual New York City Jazzfest runs now through January 10th. More than 600 incredible artists perform at more than a dozen venues from the Bowery Ballroom to SOB's. This year's theme is racial and social justice. Tickets start at $45 for a marathon night.
Contemporary Dance Showcase at Japan Society
At the Japan Society, check out the contemporary dance showcase "Japan + East Asia," with a great lineup of performances Friday and Saturday night. Tickets are $30.
Met Opera's Live HD
Saturday afternoon, see the Met's live in HD transmission of Verdi's "Nabucco" at several movie theaters around the city.
