NEW YORK - Senator Kirsten Gillibrand picks up the endorsement of the Daily News.

The paper's editorial board calls Gillibrand a champion for gay rights and immigrants.

It also praises her efforts to get medical and financial assistance for people who are suffering from September 11th-related illnesses.

The endorsement says, "Representing New York in the U.S. Senate, Democrat Kirsten  Gillibrand has been dogged in her pursuits to the benefit of the state and the country."

As for Gillibrand's Republican challenger, the News calls Chele Farley "outmatched" and says she mostly follows President Trump on taxes and immigration.

Gillibrand has served as New York's junior Senator since 2009, when she was appointed to replace Hillary Clinton.

She won a special election to keep her seat in 2010, and was re-elected in 2012.
