The estranged husband of a Staten Island teacher who has been missing since the weekend has been taken into custody, sources told NY1 on Wednesday afternoon.
Sources say Michael Cammarata is being charged with assault for allegedly hitting 37-year-old Jeanine Cammarata. No other details were given. Officials have not confirmed that the assault is in connection to her disappearance.
Sources told NY1 that police have Michael Cammarata's car and are getting a warrant to search the vehicle.
Investigators say Jeanine Cammarata was last seen Saturday. Friends say the substitute teacher at PS 29 was first reported missing by her boyfriend on Tuesday when she didn't show up for work.
The mother of three is currently going through a contentious divorce and custody battle and did not appear for a scheduled appearance in family court Tuesday.
According to police, Cammarata was last seen around 9 p.m. near the corner of Nehring and McVeigh avenues in New Springville.
Sources say her car was seen being driven over the Verrazzano Bridge on Sunday night, but it's unclear if she was inside the vehicle.
She is described as being 4 feet, 11 inches tall, weighing 120 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair.
Police say she drives a white, 2017 Chevy Cruz, with New York plate HSK8417.
