A new MTV reality show based on Staten Island is again getting negative reviews, this time from an Italian American organization.

On Monday night, the show 'Made in Staten Island' will premiere at 10 p.m.

MTV has called the show a "coming-of-age series" following eight Staten Islanders as they battle each other, the odds, and step out from the shadows and change the reputation of the island.

The Italian American One Voice Coalition, however, said on Sunday that they think the show will do the exact opposite.

"This is just another iteration of a mob themed show that denigrates Italian Americans & places all of us in a bad light. How many times must Italian Americans be portrayed in this fashion, " said Andre DiMino, Executive Board Member for the 'Italian American One Voice Coalition'.

NY1 did reach out to MTV for comment but did not hear back by 8 p.m. on Sunday night.

An online petition seeking to cancel the same show has continued to collect signatures since it was launched in December.

As of Sunday night, more than 7,500 people had signed it.

The man who drafted the petition told NY1 last month that he thinks the show sends the wrong message about the people who live on Staten Island.
