Some green thumbs on Staten Island are helping the city get ready for the annual September 11th observance.

Dozens of volunteers planted flowers and cleaned up the 9/11 Memorial Garden in front of the Richmond Terrace Houses in St. George Sunday. The volunteers are from the community organization Richmond Terrace Therapeutic Garden. Members donate their time taking care of gardens near public housing complexes in the area. It offers programs like yoga or therapy support groups.

"Every single New Yorker has been impacted in some way shape or for by 9/11. And honestly whether it’s raining or cold or not raining or cold,I’m just really honored to be here. And to be able to give something back to the community, " said one volunteer.

To continue its programming, the Richmond Terrace Therapeutic Garden accepts donations for plants and supplies at 456 Richmond Terrace.
