Some tense moments erupted Thursday during a rally in Lower Manhattan for undocumented immigrants facing deportation.

Protesters gathered outside 26 Federal Plaza after immigration officials detained prominent immigration advocate Ravi Ragbir during a routine check-in.

NY1 is told that when he learned the news inside he fainted.

When an ambulance arrived to transport him to a local hospital protesters gathered around the vehicle.

City Council members Jumaane Williams and Ydanis Rodriguez were among more than a dozen protesters arrested as police directed the crowds to get off the street and back on to the sidewalk.

Ragbir, executive director of New Sanctuary Coalition of New York City, has also advocated for Amanda Morales, the immigrant who has seeked refuge in a Washington Heights church.
