Local children got a chance to see their creations take flight, on Sunday, at Midland Beach.
The NYC Parks Department hosted their second annual Ocean Breeze Kite Flying Festival over the weekend.
The event gave both kids and adults a chance to create and decorate their own kites.
Some residents, however, joined in on the fun using kites they brought from home.
"Getting the kite together is one thing but when it actually takes off the look of like pure joy on a child’s face makes it worth all of that effort to get it going," said the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex’s Cynthia Bayiokos.
The event was free to the public and open to all ages.
