Community advocates are continuing to put pressure on local elected officials to protect human rights during the Trump presidency.

Members of "Sustainable Staten Island" met with Democratic State Senator, Diane Savino Friday.

Before the meeting they gathered outside to highlighted human rights issues they say are facing Staten Islanders.

"No matter who is in the White House, the are going to push and protect and preserve these rights and liberties that all Staten Islanders here deserve," said Cesar Vargas of the DREAM Action Coalition.

"Reaffirming our commitments to our allies on the State Senate makes a lot of sense for us," said Steven Lawton, President, Communication Workers of America

Organizers say, the "Sustainable Staten Island Coalition" plans to meet with every elected official on the island, both Democrat and Republican, to make sure their concerns are heard.
