A Staten Island home serves as a workshop for aspiring construction workers.
Rebuilding Together NYC brought students to the South Shore this week to remove large appliances and wiring from a house on Promenade Avenue.
It was all a part of their Workforce Training Program, a seven-week bootcamp for low-income New Yorkers to earn construction certificates.
After learning in a classroom for three weeks, the participants work on houses slated for demolition.
"We're sort of using these homes that are going to be demo-ed as laboratories to, or training grounds, for the workforce participants so they can really get their hands on using power tools and cutting into walls," said Kimberly George, Executive Director of Rebuilding Together NYC.
Appliances from the home on Promenade Avenue will be sold in the non-profit's Salvage Shop.
