A major nor'easter is intensifying off the east coast tonight and will continue to move northeast into the early morning. The no'easter will bring snow and wind to the city for much of Thursday.

Snow is expected to get underway after midnight, so New Yorkers will likely wake up to snow covered streets. As the storm ramps up, winds will pick up causing limited visibilities across the five boroughs. Expect up to 6 inches of snow for most of the city with parts of Queens and parts of Brooklyn getting higher accumulations. Gusty winds will continue Thursday night as the storm pulls away toward New England. Those winds could cause more blowing and drifting of that fresh snow.

Don’t anticipate relief from frigid temperatures for the rest of the week. There will be icy spots to have to contend with from left over snow, as temperatures remain below freezing. Highs are expected to top out mainly in the teens and 20s with overnight temperatures falling into the single digits at times. Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing next week with a chance of rain and snow.
