Commuters on the Long Island Rail Road dealt with service suspensions and delays Thursday amid bitterly cold temperatures.

Westbound trains headed to Penn Station were terminating at Jamaica and Woodside during the early part of the PM rush due to FDNY activity in one of Amtrak's East River tunnels. The MTA now says westbound service to Penn Station has been restored.

Earlier, the extremely cold temperatures led to a broken rail on an eastbound track just east of Queens. That led to delays of up to 90 minutes across all LIRR lines.
