In the wake of the mass shooting in New Zealand, the Muslim community came together Friday in a sign of strength and resilience.

168th Street from Highland Avenue to Gothic Drive in Jamaica Hills was co-named JMC Way for the Jamaica Muslim Center.

Members gathered in front of the mosque for the unveiling ceremony.

Councilman Rory Lancman said the renaming is a sign that the Muslim community is a part of the New York City family.

"Anybody who drives down JMC Way is going to see//the respect and affection that all of New York has for the Jamaica Muslim Center, it's leaders, its congregants, and the entire Muslim community," he said.

The street renaming was planned well before the New Zealand attacks.

The city council unanimously approved the move.
