Two Upper Manhattan subway stations will close for at least one year of repairs.

The MTA says new elevators will be installed at five stations, but three will remain open during construction.

The first to close is the 1 and A Train station at 168th Street, starting January 5. It is expected to reopen in January of 2020.

The second is the 181st Street 1 Train station, which will be closed from March 2021 through February of 2022.

The repairs will also affect the A Train stations at 181st and 190th Street, and the 1 Train station at 191st Street.

The work there will start next October and continue through 2021.

When construction is complete, there will be four elevators with front and rear entrances.

The upgrades also include improvements to emergency stairs, lighting and handrails.
