BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Police say a person was taken into custody Friday after a 70-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Brooklyn.

Sources tell NY1 the victim was getting out of his car around 9 a.m. along Woodbine Street in Bushwick.

That's when police say he was reportedly stabbed multiple times in the chest and shoulder.

He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he died.

"It's not bad, the area is good. It's not a bad area," said one neighborhood resident.

"I mean, generally, it feels pretty safe, so it's just really tragic, I mean I'm not sure what the circumstance was and why someone would do that," said another neighborhood resident.

Sources say it does not appear the victim and his attacker knew each other.

The investigation into the stabbing is ongoing, and no charges were filed as of early Friday evening.
