Renovations begin on a park that was built to honor those who died on 9/11 in the Rockaways.

Crews are repairing the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy to Tribute Park in Rockaway Park.

The park is getting new electrical and irrigation systems as well as a refurbished shore line. This was an empty lot 17 years ago. After the September 11th attacks

it was transformed into a park to honor those from the neighborhood who died on 9/11.

"This is like our home since we were little, and to have this Tribute Park to come and remember my brother cause he was never found is special, " said Corinne Warnock, whose brother died on 9/11.

This spot was chosen for a park because the Twin Towers were visible from this location, and hundreds of people from Rockway Park stood here and watched the tragedy unfold.
