Young racers went head-to-head in an annual competition in Queens.

Boy scouts from around the borough faced-off in this year's Founders District Pinewood Derby Championship on Saturday.

More than 200 racers put their cars to the test on a 45-foot track at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour.

Each scout designed and built their own cars from scratch.

NY1 spoke with one father who helped his son build his race car.

"I think it's also created this bond between me and him as we sat together, you know, trying to figure out how to make the car as fast as it could but also give it a pretty good looking shape," said Muki Phiri.

The winners head to Time Square for the city-wide finals which will take place in June.
