The Mets are bringing some friendly competition to classrooms around Queens.

The borough's favorite mascots, Mr. and Mrs. Met paid a visit to the students and teachers at P.S. 13 in Elmhurst.

They hosted a reading rally to kick off the "Ya Gotta Read" program.

Over the next six weeks, the Mets have partnered with Delta Air Lines to award students with prizes based on how many books they read.

A student from each of the participating schools who reads the most books will be honored on the field before a game this season.

"I don't like to read, but this makes it funner for me to read," said Student Logan Mendez.

Eight schools and more than 5,000 students around the borough will participate.

The program officially begins next week and will conclude once spring training rolls around at the end of March.
