A soup kitchen in Queens is one step closer to opening its new space after almost shutting its doors for good.

Volunteers from iFurniture Assembly started putting together counter tops at Masbia of Queens Wednesday.

The kosher soup kitchen and food pantry was forced to close its Rego Park doors in 2016.

Since then, they’ve been handing out frozen meals on the streets.

They now have a new home on 64th Road and 108th Street in Forest Hills and plan to open it as soon as possible.

"Now we'll be able to treat them with dignity, sit them down with a nutritious hot meal, like in a restaurant. That's what we always wanted to do," said Alexander Rapaport, Executive Director, Masbia of Queens.

There are still some items that need to be purchased.
