NEW YORK - It may be the city that never sleeps, but a new proposal wants to put New York's 24 hour subway service to bed.

Accodring to the Daily News, the Regional Plan Association is putting forth the controversial idea as part of its fourth region-wide blueprint.

The research group is proposing to shut down service overnight between Mondays and Thursdays.

It says ending around-the-clock service would give the MTA a chance to actually fix needed repairs that have been crippling service for years.

To make up for the lost subway service, the organization is proposing the MTA add shuttle buses overnight.
