The Village of Monticello is replacing a 70-year-old water tank with the help of a new casino.

Resorts World Catskills will tap into Monticello's water supply when it opens in March. Upgrading to the 2.5 million gallon tank will help the casino fulfill its water permit from the state.

The casino will pay $3 million toward replacing the aging water tank, and Monticello will bond $750,000.

"When you look at total improvement to our infrastructure, I think it's money well spent," said Monticello Village Manager David Sager. "And we have a very aged water infrastructure. Many of these repairs should have been done a long time ago."

The village manager also says the tank upgrade will help prepare Monticello for any future development.
