Police are investigating after anti-gay graffiti was found on at least two Astoria bus stops.

The NYPD confirms they're looking into the vulgar graffiti found at one stop near 30th Anevue and 36th Street.

State Senator Michael Gianaris says his office was notified of the incident around 8:00 Sunday night. His office says he has been in contact with the deputy inspector of the local precinct to request it be treated as a hate crime.

City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer took it upon himself to clean similar graffiti at a different bus stop on Steinway Street and 31st Avenue.

Van Bramer and Gianaris both say there's been a surge in hate crimes and hateful rhetoric since the election, and say graffiti like this has no place in Queens.
