Queens is now home to the first Satellite office of Veteran affairs in New York City.

The office that opened Thursday is the first of it's kind to be opened by the Mayor's Office of Veteran Affairs.

It's located on the second floor of Borough Hall and is equipped to assist veterans with any questions or concerns, that they usually would have had to travel to the central office in Manhattan for.

An outreach specialist is stationed at the office to help veterans access federal, state, and city benefits they are entitled to such as housing, and education opportunities.

"It isn't easy for everyone to get on a subway or a bus or drive into Manhattan to get service especially if they're  veterans. Many of them have issues of disability or have issues they may not be able to bring in all their papers and documents into Manhattan, now it's neighborhood." said Queens Borough President Melinda Katz

The office is open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays.
