NEW YORK — Two people are dead after an apartment fire broke out late Wednesday night on Manhattan's west side.

The FDNY says the fire broke out around 11:30 p.m. in a fourth floor apartment at the Amsterdam Houses located at 216 West 62nd Street.

Firefighters got the flames under control about an hour later.

A 70-year-old woman and 44-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene.

There was no immediate word on what started the fire, but the city Fire Marshal says it does not appear to be suspicious.
