In Manhattan, one neighborhood is getting the jump on halloween celebrations.

The Henry Street Settlement hosted its second annual Children’s Halloween Costume Parade and Party Sunday at Pier 36. The event was co-sponsored by the NYPD's 7th precinct and Basketball City. It featured a costume contest, face painting, and dancing. All safe ways for kids to experience the spooky holiday.

“Giving back is so important to this community because not much is done in lower manhattan. It’s wonderful to have this area where the kids know that they’re safe, they can run around right in their parents eye distance,” said Annette G. Rodriguez, amother in the neighborhood.

“It’s important for us to all come together and have fun and celebrate what we all love," said Genesis Gay, 12.

The organization is hosting more halloween themed events over the next couple of weeks. For details: visit henrystreet.org
