Citymeals on Wheels, a nonprofit that feeds thousands of homebound seniors every day, celebrated a milestone Tuesday when it delivered its 60 millionth meal to 80-year-old Dorothy Driscoll.

The Manhattan nonprofit has been dispatching volunteers to check on seniors and bring them daily food packs since 1981. The goal is to provide nutritious meals, combat social isolation, and check-in with seniors, which proved to be a critical service for Discoll last year when she fell in her apartment and was unable to get up.

A volunteer knocked on Driscoll's door to deliver a meal and found Discoll had been laying on the floor overnight.

"If it wasn't for the delivery from meals on wheels, I would have been there for a long time. He really, he really saved me," said Driscoll.

Citymeals On Wheels delivers 18,414 meals daily. To learn more about the service and eligibility criteria, visit www.citymeals.org.
