City police officials on Tuesday identified a third suspect who they said participated in an attack on an elderly couple in their home in Brooklyn, during which the husband was slashed and the wife was sexually assaulted. Sources said the husband is a retired NYPD lieutenant.

Police said 20-year-old Tyrique Rushing and two other men broke into the Marine Park home early in the morning October 8.

According to sources, the burglars sexually assaulted the 72-year-old lieutenant's wife after she refused to hand over her car keys. The attackers also hit her husband in the head with a blunt object and slashed his cheek with a knife, police said.

The NYPD said the attackers later drove off with the 71-year-old wife's car, before two of them were apprehended in the vehicle. 20-year-old Lance Jyrkinen and 25-year-old Shirnel Sobers face a number of charges including attempted murder, assault, burglary, and grand larceny.

The couple was treated for their injuries at a local hospital.

Neighbors said burglars targeted the home two other times this year.
