Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Sunday that New York State will reopen the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island on Monday.

Both locations have been closed since Saturday as a result of the federal government shutdown.

The governor says the state will fully fund National Park Service personnel and costs of operations in the wake of the shutdown. The state says the cost is $65,000 per day.

The agreement is similar to one the state had with the federal goverment during the last federal shutdown in 2013.
