It's been 70 years since the end of World War II, and some celebrated the anniversary with a kiss at the Times Square Alliance-hosted kiss-in.

Couples recreated the iconic embrace between an American sailor and nurse captured on camera on VJ Day.

"We also wanted to celebrate peace and the possibility of peace by doing exactly what that sailor and nurse did 70 years ago–kissing and celebrating love in the midst of all the craziness of the world," said one participant.

"We just couldn't miss out on such a beautiful event to celebrate history and also the future," said another.

"I was over here waiting for my girl but apparently she was stuck on a train, so I got to enjoy the event all by myself," said one man.

The 25-foot-high sculpture replica of the original kiss will be in Times Square through Sunday, August 16.
