It was another bitterly cold day in and around the five boroughs on New Year's Eve as a polar air mass lingered over the region. It marked the fifth straight day that the high temperature for the day was at least 10 degrees below normal. The winds were an issue as well, as gusts in excess of 30mph were seen across the area.

Conditions for the New Year's Eve Times Square Ball Drop will be just as frigid and blustery, so, be sure to dress in multiple layers. Temperatures will only be around 10 degrees, and the winds will make it feel like 5 to 10 degrees below zero.

More frigid air is in store for the first full week of 2018; Afternoon highs will only be in the teens and 20s. Most of the week is looking bright and dry, but, a few snowflakes are possible on Thursday.
