A star from Sex and the City is using her celebrity status to help fund the city's public libraries.

Sarah Jessica Parker channels her character's love of the written word to support the cause.

In the same way her character, Carrie Bradshaw, would have written down her thoughts, Parker penned a letter mass e-mailed to city library members to rally support for funding. Library systems in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens are facing $11 million  in budget cuts.

She writes:

"I couldn't help but wonder, could I as a New Yorker accept cuts to our wonderful, important, necessary, and beloved libraries? I'm sorry. I can't"

Parker encourages members to write a digital sticky note about why they love libraries at InvestInLibraries.org

On Tuesday morning, supporters plan to rally ahead of a budget hearing at City Hall.
