Around 25 people were displaced from their homes after a fire in Brooklyn broke out overnight.

The FDNY says flames broke out shortly before midnight last night at the two-story home on 85th street between 19th and 20th Avenues in Bensonhurst.

The fire began on the second floor, but flames and smoke quickly spread throughout the building and the building next door.

Crews had the fire under control in about three hours.

The deputy fire chief said the low temperatures and the building's age provided extra challenges.

"As you can see with the weather, it added a lot of difficulty to the operation. These types of buildings, they're known for the fire trouble, a lot of voids in these buildings. And very difficult, very punching operation when you have to just look for it. Cause initially we had no fire showing, just heavy smoke, so we really had to look for it," said FDNY Deputy Chief David Maj.

One firefighter was hurt.
