Parent leaders at Brooklyn Technical High School want the city to start from scratch in its ongoing search for a new principal.

They say the pool of candidates recently interviewed for the job is not wide or strong enough and that the Education Department has overlooked experienced assistant principals and ignored parent recommendations. Other than the school's acting principal, none of those interviewed for the job have ever led a city high school before or have experience at Brooklyn Tech, they say.

"The application process and the identity of the applicants is confidential and we respect that, that's part of a normal hiring process,” said Art Chang, the chairman of the Brooklyn Tech School Leadership Team. “But we also expect to see candidates who are representative of the quality available to the New York City school system … We expect to see those in the next go around."

So far, more than 150 parents have signed a petition calling for a new search. An Education Department spokeswoman says the city will continue to engage the school community in the search process.
