BROOKLYN, N.Y. - A city man faces numerous charges after an arsenal of guns and ammunition are discovered in his Brooklyn apartment.

Mario Rosales was arrested after police raided the apartment at 95 Linden Boulevard in Flatbush on Saturday.

When officers knocked his mother answered the door and told them Rosales was not at home.

Investigators say he was actually attempting to get away using the building's fire escape.

Police were already positioned in the back of the building and were able to arrest him.

Once inside the apartment, officers found 12 handguns, 18 assault rifles and three shot guns, along with large quantities of ammunition.

Some neighbors say they heard the commotion and are relieved the guns were taken away.

"There was a lot of chaos and it went on until maybe like 2, 2:30, 3 in the morning and then the police came back the next day. I'm glad that they collected the stuff and that they got rid of it before someone had the chance to use it on someone," said one neighbor.

Rosales faces numerous counts of criminal weapons possession as well as assault and menacing charges.
