In Bedford-Stuyvesant a new gym is encouraging athletest to "lift like a girl."

Strength For All is a weight lifting and barbell club that’s specifically geared towards teaching women, non-binary and LGBTQ athletes how to power lift and strength train. Men are also invited to join, as long as they follow the gym's zero tolerance policy. That includes empowering everyone and not making others feel like they’re inexperienced weight lifters. There are a variety of classes offered, everything from beginner weights to high-interval training.

The owner, Shannon Wagner, encourages anyone who’s ever felt left out at a traditional gym to join.  “We believe that everybody deserves access to a space where they can come and exercise and work on their fitness goals in a place where they know they’re going to be safe, welcomed and supportive” she says.

Strength For All sells memberships on a sliding scale, which means the price point varies based on the athlete's financial circumstances.
