Home cooks are putting their cac and cheese making skills to the test.

Amatuer chefs from across the city took their best mac and cheese recipes to the 15th annual Mac and Cheez Takedown. The competition was held at LOT 45 in Bushwick on Sunday.

Ticket holders got to sample all 20 cheesy dishes and then voted for their favorites. Some dishes were family recipes passed down for generations, while others were experimented with flavors, such as everything bagel seasoning cheeseburgers mixed into mac and cheese.

“It’s like really cool to see people young and old who speak different languages and make different food all like recognizing each other and like cheering for each other it’s really cool,” said Katie Wendt, a competitior.

“Mac and cheese is the ultimate comfort food, and this is the best weather for it, it’s so cold and kind of dismal out such gray skies and the only thing you really want to do is curl up around a huge bowl of mac and cheese,” said Matthew Timms, Founder of the Mac and Cheez Takedown.

The winner of this year’s competition will be named the Mac and Cheez Champ of 2019 and leave with new cookware and kitchen appliances as a reward.
