BROOKLYN, N.Y. - After 18 years, the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory is closing its doors for good, at least in its current location.

It's closing after the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation, which owns the  property, decided to lease it to another entity.

The final scoop will be served on December 31.

Owner Mark Thompson says he hopes to open in a new location soon.

"I've been here for 20 years, it's part of me in here. It's going to be hard for me to leave, but we have wonderul customers, a great clentele, I have a great staff. We're hoping to still be a local hangout somewhere if we can find the right situation, Brooklyn ICe Cream Factory will carry on," Thompson said.

The Fulton Ferry Boat House where the ice cream shop is located will remain intact because the building is landmarked.
