An Amazin' honor for a retired Major League Baseball player from his former junior high school.

Nelson Figueroa Jr. is now officially part of the Mark Twain Intermediate School for the Gifted and Talented Hall Fame. The Brooklyn native was drafted by the New York Mets in 1995.

He pitched for Amazin's for nine years and also played for the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Houston Astros. He credits his alma mater for teaching him the fundamentals.

"It's the best junior high school in the city, it's where my dreams were born. I was an athletics talent, I was around some of the best athletes in the city.  And really, it honed my quest for competition," said Figueroa.

Figueroa graduated from Mark Twain in 1989 and is currently a pre and post-game analyst for SNY
