Summer is not too far off and people in Brooklyn can look forward to a new park opening just in time for the warmer months.

Construction continues on Pier 3 at Brooklyn Bridge Park

Officials tell NY1 the 5-acre space will be home to 500 trees as well as an acre of green space and a children's sensory playground called "The Labyrinth."

They say this is the last pier that needed to be converted from commercial to public use.

"Brooklyn Bridge Park has been opening in phases since 2010. We are currently 80 percent complete and open to the public. Pier 3 will bring us to 90 percent," said Eric Landau of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy.

The $26 million capital project started in October 2016. It's expected to be completed in July or August.
