NATIONWIDE – Don’t let your emergency plan go up in flames.

Kidde fire extinguishers with plastic handles have been recalled.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the extinguishers can become clogged or require excessive force to discharge and can fail to activate during a fire.

One death has been reported.

Officials say the recall involves 134 models manufactured between Janunary 1973 and August 2017.

The importer of the extinguishers is based in Mebane, North Carolina.

Consumers should contact Kidde to request a free replacement and for instructions on returning the recalled extinguisher.

The list of recalled models is available on the company's website, as well as the website of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, cpsc.gov.
