Grown in the Bronx, an award-winning salad dressing earns one resident $500 in a local recipe competition.

Fay Bonas used ingredients from the Kelly Street garden to create what she calls the Boogie Down Tambrin. It includes tamarind, cilantro, serrano peppers, Bronx honey and cinnamon.

Through USDA funding, Members of the Bronx Canasta organized the contest to encourage community involvement and healthy eating.

"I think it's really important just to know where your food comes from and to know what goes into the things you consume. What better way to do that than grow it yourself," Bonas said.

The Boogie Down Tambrin will be bottled and sold at local farmers markets.
