In the Bronx some students are hoping to spread a message of love and positivity in their community.

Five students from IS 219, New Venture School, in Morrisania have painted a mural on their school.

The social action large-scale mural is their call to action for a peaceful and healthy community.

The artwork addresses a number of issues including gun violence, bullying, smoking, and a clean environment.

"When people see this they're gonna see that they could...they should be in peace. They should be...they feel great inside, be respectful to one another, treat others the way you want to be treated," said artist Jacob Ortiz.

The mural was created as part of the Center for Educational Innovation's Social Action Mural Program.

The initiative uses art to get students talking about the issues that they face in their own community.
