WIMBERLEY, Texas — A Hays Co. officer was shot after responding to a possible break-in at an antique store Friday morning in Wimberley, and the suspect involved is dead. 

According to the Hays County Sheriff's Office, on Nov. 24, at 3:47 a.m., they received a call of a man with a gun who was possibly breaking into Jean’s Antiques, located at the 11500 block of Ranch Road 12 in Wimberley.

Deputies arrived, and while attempting to locate the male subject, someone began shooting at them, striking their patrol vehicles and wounding one of the deputies. The deputies fired back and the suspect, identified as Rocky Miles West, age 26, retreated into a nearby wooded area.

West was located after a brief search and found deceased. It is unknown if West’s wounds were self-inflicted or if his injuries were the result of the shots that were fired by the sheriff’s deputies.

The injured deputy has been identified as Benjamin Gieselman, age 28, a three-year veteran with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office.

Gielsman suffered non-life threatening injuries to his legs and upper body. He was flown to an Austin-area hospital where he is being treated.

No injuries were reported to the other deputies involved.
